Mozilla pitches Firefox 3.1 alpha for July release
Just a week after Mozilla shipped Firefox 3.0, the open-source developer has proposed ship dates for the next version that, if approved, would produce an alpha release next month and a final no later than early 2009.
According to a draft schedule discussed at a Tuesday meeting, Mozilla wants to have the first Firefox 3.1 developer preview, or alpha, ready by July, then move to a beta by August. The schedule slates final code delivery in the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2009. A month ago, when Mozilla first started discussing Firefox 3.1 internally, Mike Schroepfer, the company's vice president of engineering, said the upgrade's target ship date was the end of 2008.
If Mozilla holds to that plan, Firefox 3.1 would be its first fast-track update, with a development timeline significantly shorter than usual. Firefox 3.0, for instance, launched approximately 20 months after its predecessor, Firefox 2.0.
Previously, Mozilla said that it would be able to meet the shorter deadlines because Firefox 3.1 would be composed of features that didn't make it into Firefox 3.0, but were "nearly complete," Schroepfer said.
In the meeting notes published online Tuesday, Mozilla listed some of the improvements it hopes to slot into Firefox 3.1, including changes to the revamped bookmarking that debuted in 3.0 and modifications to the new amped-up location bar.
Several of the proposed changes, however, rely on improvements to the Gecko engine that underpins Firefox, as well as other applications, such as Mozilla Messaging's Thunderbird e-mail client. Developers are working on Gecko 1.9.1 at the same time as Firefox 3.1, and programmers on the latter project expect some of those refinements will make it into the browser's next upgrade, including additional improvements in JavaScript performance and better compliance with the Acid3 test, which checks how closely a browser follows certain Web standards.
In March, when both Apple Inc. and Opera Software ASA touted gains in matching Acid3's requirements with their Safari and Opera browsers, respectively, Mozilla called the race to a perfect score "a puzzle game" and said it wouldn't divert resources from the still-under-construction Firefox 3.0 to match its rivals.
Since the June 17 launch, more than 21.8 million copies of Firefox 3.0 have been downloaded, according to Mozilla's own counter.

MS To Become Open Source Friendly Post Gates
"Now that Gates has 'retired' from Microsoft, ZDNet is speculating that Microsoft will become much more Open Source friendly. From the article, "We already see quite a different approach to dealing with OSS and OSS companies from Sam Ramji's group [which is] doing a great job in establishing dialog," said Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange and a former marketing exec at SUSE Linux. "With Gates' departure, the only mammoth remaining is Ballmer. With him away in a near future, Microsoft will definitely open up. They have to."" "For much of Microsoft's history, its primary strategic initiative has been Windows everywhere. Bill Gates was the primary architect of this and it has served the company well in reaching the $50 billion revenue mark. To get from $50 to $100 billion, however, they will clearly need to embrace the non-Windows world," said Barry Crist, CEO, Likewise Software. "I suspect this will be easier for Microsoft to accomplish without Gates. We see substantive signs of this happening already.""

Red Hat Targets Adoption Of Next-Gen Virtualisation
Red Hat Targets Adoption Of Next-Gen Virtualisation .Introduces three initiatives -- Embedded Linux Hypervisor, Virtual Infrastructure Management and Security Infrastructure.
Red Hat has announced three strategic initiatives targeting enterprise-wide adoption of next-generation virtualisation. The company introduced embedded Linux hypervisor for hosting virtualised Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows environments. It has announced the beta availability of this hypervisor at www.ovirt.org. The hypervisor is based on the KVM project.
The company has introduced open source virtual infrastructure management solution will enable enterprise IT to build and manage internal clouds. The company has also released the www.freeIPA.org project to advance and deliver integrated security technologies such that virtualisation can be used ubiquitously across the enterprise.
Paul Cormier, president, products and technology, Red Hat, said, "Today's announcements are a key step in extending the benefits of virtualisation to every IT deployment. We continue to see huge improvements in functionality, performance and time to market because of our close relationship with our open source partners. For example, Intel and IBM have worked with us for many years covering virtualisation technologies that span from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 to today's KVM-based announcements. We see this as the beginning of open source solutions becoming dominant in the software virtualisation market, as it has in others, such as Linux itself."
"The market for virtualisation is growing in India. With the added benefits, we will be able to deploy virtualisation infrastructure in Indian enterprises with greater flexibility and scalability. The enhanced features would help increase the rate of adoption of open source virtualisation in India," added Nandu Pradhan, president and managing director, Red Hat India.
Using reliance CDMA phone as modem to connect internet
This tutorial can be used to configure any reliance phone to connect to internet. If you have samsung USB phones then it get first configured automatically by KUDZU in Redhat then you can use following steps further to connect to internet. Most of the time your phone will not be autodetected by such utility if it has serial connectivity but don't worry it will still work. Here we will use Wvdial , which is a command line utility to connect to internet. There is also Kwvdial which is a GUI for same but I havn't used that yet.Using CDMA phone as Modem to connect to internetSo to connect to internet using CDMA phone you have to use Wvdial. For first time you have to use Wvdialconf, a utility come with wvdial to configure it. To run it just connect your device and then run it using..
wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
It will show some testing and if it founds modem then will tell the port on which it founds.Now open your /etc/wvdial.confThere put following code (there will be few things aleready like modem string and modem port, use those string instead of given here as those are one which your modem or phone support.
[Modem0]
Modem=/dev/input/ttyS0
Baud=115200
SetVolume=0
Dial Command = ATD
Tinit1=ATZ
init2=AT+CRM=1
FlowControl= Hardware (CRTSCTS)
[Dialer reliance]
Username= Ph No.
Password= Ph No.
Phone=#777
Stupid Mode= 1
Inherits = Modem0
Here in above code change /dev/input/ttyS0 to your computer's com port if you are using serial cable other if you are using USB then replace that with ttyACM2 or ttyACMx here x= you USB port.
Now to connect to internet type at console
wvdial reliance
You should be connected to internet if every thing is fine.To disconnect you have to use Ctrl+C .To check it open another terminal and type
ifconfig ppp0
If it is not connected it will say no such device found. If it gives some info then you are connected to internet.Finally : I have not tested it all reliance set but it should work. I kindly request you all to share your experience and make it useful.

Bill Gates' last official day as a Microsoft employee
Bill Gates' last official day as a Microsoft employee, though as the company's largest shareholder, he remains the company's chairman. To underline his exit, Gates gave an emotional goodbye speech to employees Friday morning that was Webcast across the globe.
However, his departure leaves more than one burning question.
Despite all of the years of careful planning for this day and what comes after, can the management team that's left to run the company keep it moving forwards – and some would say, continue innovating -- instead of drifting into oblivion the way so many other tech firms have failed after the founder has left?
Don't forget that, after both companies foundered, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) had to recall their founders in order to save the companies they'd built.
That puts the focus on CEO Steve Ballmer and the team of executives he's assembled.
It won't be easy, but several Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) observers think both Ballmer and the company's other key leaders are up to the job.
"Ballmer has been managing this era already … Gates stepped out of the day-to-day [running of the company] at the turn of the century," Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group, told InternetNews.com.
Ballmer, after all, Enderle pointed out, has been CEO for the last eight years. Many of the major decisions that have impacted the company, its partners and customers since 2000 have emanated from his office.
During that time, the company's revenues grew from $23 billion per year to an expected $60 billion in fiscal 2008, which ends Monday. The company has also grown in size until today Microsoft employs nearly 80,000 people worldwide.
Like Gates, Ballmer is 52. They met during their sophomore year at Harvard. Gates dropped out to start Microsoft, while Ballmer graduated and started on an MBA at Stanford before Gates hired him in 1980.
Since then, Ballmer has held a wide range of executive positions -- including vice president of operating systems -- many of them with a marketing focus, although they also required a technical understanding of the company's products,
"Ballmer may not be a technologist, the way Gates is, but he understands the product set," Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told InternetNews.com.
Still, largely because Gates has been so visible throughout the company's history, many people have the impression that Gates' vision drives Microsoft and Ballmer is merely the company's chief salesman.
While there might be some truth to that argument – Ballmer is a consummate salesman -- analysts this week repeatedly said that attitude doesn't properly give credit where it's due. Ballmer, during his 28 years with Microsoft, has been closely involved with the company's technologies and the decisions around them, even if he hasn't done code reviews the way Gates has.
Additionally, Gates has said that he will continue to work as much as a day a week for the company as special projects for Ballmer, although he hasn't named any so far.
"I think it would be really wrong to say that Gates' oversight will not be there," Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, told InternetNews.com. "Bill and Steve have worked together for so long that Steve knows Bill's thinking," he added.
Besides that, Gates was smart enough to appoint Ray Ozzie, the creator of Lotus Notes, to replace him as the company's visionary and chief software architect.
"By hiring people like Ozzie, I think they have the technology [visionary] side covered," King said.
Additionally, Ballmer has the benefit of long-time technology executives like Bob Muglia, who is senior vice president of the Server and Tools business, and Steve Sinofsky, who is senior vice president of Windows and Windows Live engineering, to fall back on, said Rob Helm, director of research at Directions on Microsoft.
Ultimately, however, it may be that even if Gates had opted to stay, the company would still be seemingly constantly on the brink of disaster, analysts say. Change is necessary if the company is going to survive, much less continue to prosper.
"I honestly feel the 'old gang' couldn't move the company forward [because] it's too big and it needs a big gang of people making individual decisions [within the business units]," Helm said.
Dell Takes Lead In Windows/Linux External Storage Market
Dell Takes Lead In Windows/Linux External Storage Market .Ships over 116 petabytes in external disk storage for Windows/Linux servers in Q1.
In the first quarter of calendar year 2008, Dell for the first time has captured a 20.4 per cent of the open systems (Windows/Linux) external worldwide disk array storage market with $422 million in revenue. Its closest competitor claimed 18.5 per cent share and $384 million in revenue.
Dell’s external controller-based storage revenue increased 21 per cent year-over-year, and Dell gained share in iSCSI-based SANs to take the number one position with more than twice the revenue of the next leading vendor. This growth demonstrates strong momentum in all segments of Dell’s worldwide storage business.
“We believe taking the lead in the Windows/Linux external storage market is significant. We have invested heavily in our portfolio across the board,” said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager, Dell Enterprise Storage. “This is the high-growth segment, and we plan to continue demonstrating leadership throughout our entire family of storage systems, including PowerVault, Dell/EMC and EqualLogic.”
This explains, in part, why Dell shipped over 116 petabytes in external disk storage for Windows/Linux servers in Q1, representing 95 per cent of the total of 122 petabytes of external disk storage Dell ships each quarter.
“That is an astounding amount of storage capacity,” said Thomas. As a comparison, it is estimated by some that the total printed matter contained by all US academic research libraries equals only two petabytes. All told, Dell ships more than an estimated 288 petabytes of total disk storage each week within all of its products – including servers, desktops, laptops and enterprise storage systems – in order to accommodate the demand for storage in the digital universe.

Nokia To Make Symbian Open Source
Nokia is planning to kill three birds with one stone -- Symbian. The big company Nokia from a small country Finland is planning to make some major changes in the mobile industry. The first step is to acquire the remaining shares in Symbian, the software company that develops and licences Symbian OS, an open operating system for mobile devices. Nokia, which makes 40 per cent of all phones sold globally, will pay €264 million ($410 million) for the 52 per cent of British-based Symbian it does not already own. Secondly, Nokia would gradually open up the Symbian platform, making it open source. And thirdly, it is bringing all the leading mobile players together for the Symbian platform.
Plans for the Foundation have already received wide support from other industry leaders. The industry majors who will be part of the foundation include biggies like AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone. Membership of this non-profit Foundation will be open to all organisations. This initiative is supported by current shareholders and management of Symbian Limited, who have been actively involved in its development. The Foundation's platform will build on the leading open mobile software platform, with more than 200 million phones, across 235 models, already shipped by multiple vendors and tens of thousands of third-party applications already available for Symbian OS-based devices.Contributions from Foundation members through open collaboration will be integrated to further enhance the platform. The Foundation will make selected components available as open source at launch. It will then work to establish the most complete mobile software offering available in open source. This will be made available over the next two years and is intended to be released under Eclipse Public License (EPL) 1.0.

Adding Flash Player into FireFox Portable Without Installing It
Right now, due to I don’t have an administrator privileges on my office computer, I can’t install FireFox 3 in it, so I have to use FireFox 3 Portable from PortableApps.
Unfortunately, this FireFox 3 Portable is not bundled with Adobe Flash Player, so I need to install it manually, wich is I can’t due to the limited access rights.
To resolved this problem, I try to follow the tips given by Fabio on his blog post, Installing Flash Player Plugin on Firefox without having Administrator Access or Premissions. The idea is the same, the only different is the folder path where we should place the flash files, if in normal FireFox installation the flash extension files should be place in folder %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Plugins\, then for FireFox Portable, all the files should be place in \FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plugins folder.
So, these are all steps that we need to do:
1. Download Flash Player .xpi version
2. Rename flashplayer-win.xpi into flashplayer-win.zip and extract it using WinZip or 7Zip etc.
3. Copy flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll files into folder \FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plugins.
After restarting FireFox Portable, just visit any site with Flash on it to test the installation.
Star-worthy: Firefox 3 Bookmarks
bookmark stars which allow for one-click bookmarking
tags that allow you to add extra relevant information to a bookmark so it’s easier to find and organize
smart bookmark folders or “saved searches” that automatically update when you add new items matching that search to your bookmarks

Firefox 3’s bookmark dialog box
Take a look at her post for more details, as well as a great how-to. I’ve found that I am using Firefox 3’s bookmarking with renewed gusto thanks to the little star and intuitive organization and search!

Enable/Disable AutoRun For Individual Drives
Windows' Autoplay is a neat feature - the moment you pop in a CD/Drive or a Removable drive, autorun.inf file is read, and any executable file mentioned in there is executed. While this seems as a good idea, say, for automated setup installers, Autoplay has gathered some infamy as a virus distribution centre.
With default settings, you can only disable or enable Autoplay totally, not for individual drives. So is there a way to enable Autoplay, say only for individual drives, say, CD Drive? Yes!
For that you'll need Tweak UI, grab it from here.
After installing, launch it.
http://static.flickr.com/2018/2463874091_ff048ca52e.jpg
Click on the "+" mark next to My Computer, head over to AutoPlay, drives, and ensure that a Check mark is placed against only the drives you want AutoPlay to be enabled. Restart your PC. As simple as that.

So, There are many option to rid off from it, like one of my closest friend Subhojeet told me to Goto>Start>Run> Then type there “msconfig” without quote. Then turn of all non Microsoft services and startup programs. Then start PC in safe mode to scan drives with Avast And Spyware Doctor.
Ya may you get solution or not. In case of my I not get the solution my avast and Windows Defender are updated. Anyway maybe avast and Microsoft will update there definition soon. Anyway you may also format your machine to fix itL. But in both case of that you face some problem like formatting is big problem if your computer have some important documents and games etc. Those are really huge problem and in case of start up program closing maybe there some important program like Tray program such as Realtech Audio etc cause problem and many problems.
Now my method is very easy,
1. Restart Your Computer In Safe Mode.
2. Goto My Computer And Then Tools>Folder Options>View
Then Check Show Hidden Files And Folders And Also Show System Hidden Files.
3. Now Goto X:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ Folder. (X: Is Your System Drive Such As C
4. Then Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to start Task Manager.
5. Goto Process Tab.
6. Click wscript.exe and click end process.
7. Then Delete VirusRemoval.vbs File from system32 folder. Actually this is the virus.

HIV LIFECYCLE
For its exhibit at the 2002 International AIDS Conference in Barcelona,GlaxoSmithKline commissioned a three minute film on the life of cycle of the HIV virus,with an emphasis on the mechanism of the integrase molecule in its role in inserting the AIDS virus genome into the host T-cell DNA.
HIV Replication and Life Cycle
HIV replication is a complex multi-staged process that includes crucial steps taking place on the exterior as well as the interior of the target host cell.
The first three steps involved in cell entry are termed attachment, co-receptor binding and fusion. Each step is crucial to successful viral reproduction.
Once HIV virus penetrates the cell, it releases its RNA into the cell.

New Automatic Door
A new type of automatic door is presented at japan tech fair.
The idea is that the door is made out of many pieces where has a motion detecor and as you approach them they open just the parts of the door needed for the object to pass through.
For example passing a cardboard box would open the doors just so it fit through.
They can probably pay back in places where heat needs to be conserved as much as possible. By opening just the right dimensions no heat is lost.

Multi-Input Touch Screen Interaction Technology
The usual touch screens usually allow just a single touch interaction. This new technology is designed to be usable by both hands or by multiple persons.
The uses are endless. You can use it for creating a fantastic video mixing or special effects. Create interactive presentations which can be modified with both hands. Quickly categorize, resize and move images. Draw some pokemons and make them wiggle. Examine 3D figures more easily. Maps and terrains can be examined. Music can be mixed. And it can be used to display some complex mathematical structures as graphs for example. Sure there are many other uses.

Adding On A Domain Name In Cpanel
This is a brief tutorial on how to addon a domain name in Cpanel. A big misunderstanding about domain names and hosting accounts, is that people think they a hosting account per domain name. Some hosting companies are mean and greatly restrict this. TopGradeHosting.com doesn't, you have have 999 domain names under one account for the same hosting fee as one domain name! Now each domain name of course carries with it a registration charge through the registrar it's with, but again, you can use your one hosting account with me for all your domain names for the same monthly hosting fee.

Make Older Add-Ons Work with Firefox 3.0
If you're willing to risk instability, a simple preference hack can bring out-of-date browser extensions back to life.
If you're like me, you've been playing around with the beta releases of Firefox 3.0.The new version of the open source browser is better-looking, uses less memory, and feels snappier all around. There's just one problem: Every time they release a new beta version, some of your extensions and add-ons are bound to stop working. With the release of Firefox 3.0rc1, almost none of them work.
Fortunately, there is a solution that will "fix" all of your extensions at once. But I caution you, it's not for the weak-hearted. The fix doesn't take longer than a few seconds, but when it comes to troubleshooting your browser afterward, you'll be on your own.
I can't repeat this enough. DO NOT TRY THIS unless you are comfortable editing the advanced preferences of your browser. And don't do anything until you've read through this entire post. Don't say I didn't warn you.
In my experience, extensions that worked with Firefox 3.0b5 will generally be stable with 3.0rc1. It is possible, however, that some of them will cause the new version of the browser to crash. It might even crash on startup -- which means, obviously, that you won't easily be able to undo the fix I'm about to describe.
The key to the fix is to prevent Firefox from checking its version number before it tries to load extensions. To do this, you will need to set a new preference value. Point your browser at the URL "about:config", then right-click on the preferences list to bring up the contextual menu. You should see an option that says "New." Select that, and choose "Boolean." When it asks you for the preference name, type "extensions.checkCompatibility" (without the quotes). You have to enter the name exactly. For the value, choose "false."
Now restart Firefox. When the browser comes back up, it should give you a warning that version checking is disabled. You can double-check under "Tools:Add-Ons" to make sure everything is activated once again.
If the worst case happens and the browser won't start after you add the new preference, you'll need to remove it by hand. Locate the file "prefs.js" within your Firefox profile directory and edit it with any text file editor to delete the line with the preference you just created. (If you're not comfortable doing that, then as I've said, this fix is probably not for you.)
Also, you'll want to remember to delete the preference once the final version of Firefox 3.0 is released, or else you'll never be certain that your installation is stable.
Good luck. As I've said before, I can't troubleshoot any individual Firefox installations. But hopefully this will help you keep your most-beloved add-ons running until their maintainers update them for the final Firefox 3.0. If you still have trouble with some extensions under Firefox 3.0rc1, you can post your experience here in the PC World Community Forums.

Installing BackTrack3 beta in VMware Workstation 6 directly from the iso file
Hi, first of all thanks to all the people who have made BT3 possible and waiting for BT3 final eagerly. Now before starting the installation make sure the MD5 checksum of the original and the downloaded BT3 iso file. Assuming that VMware Workstation installed lets move forward and install BT3.
-First create a virtual machine with following configurations:-
Quote:

Hard File Size: 8GB
Now after the machine has been created click on the name of the virtual machine just created in the sidebar on the left side and then under command options click on Edit virtual machine settings. Click Cd rom and change the settings from Use physical drive to Use ISO image and click on browse to select the saved BT3 iso image and save the settings.
-Now click o play button on the tool bar to run the Virtual machine and select any of the options from the boot menu.
-After it has booted into BT3 open the Terminal window and use following commands.

Booting live from USB using a bios with no usb boot support
I just figured i might post this incase anyone has was having trouble,
my laptop an old old ibm thinkpad has no usb boot support and a faulty cdrom, no network access (welll wireless pcmcia)
so using wakepup2 w ww.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7979
i downloaded the wakepup iso (praying my cdrom would load it) and copied the files from the bt2 iso to the root of my usb stick (BT \ boot) then also made the following 2 files on the root of the usb stick.
loadit.bat
linld.com image=C:\boot\vmlinuz initrd=C:\boot\initrd.gz cl=@C:\configconfig
root=/dev/ram0
rw
init=linuxrc
load_ramdisk=1
prompt_ramdisk=0
ramdisk_size=4444
max_loop=255
vga=769
irqpollirqpoll is probably not needed for you, but my stupid cdrom lags boot times massively without it.
then after heaps of tinkering
i booted the laptop got the wakepup screen and the second time it asks for confimation i hit ctrl + c
and it dropped me to a freedos prompt
then its as simple as
cd C:
loadit
once in, i just continued with a normal backtrack install.
